DOOM OF SPORT

LACK OP RUBBER AUSTRALIAN POSITION Sydney, June 17. Because of restrictions on the use of rubber, football, tennis, golf and cycling are threatened with extinction for the duration of the war. The position is acute and executives of sporting clubs will make representations to the Federal Government when it will be urged that it is necessary to maintain the morale of the public by way of sport, which has always played a big pait in national fitness. Unless bladders are obtainable, footballers in the near future may be compelled to play the game with a case stuffed with rag. The present stcoks of golf balls are sufficient to last one season, but afterwards it may be an occasion for reverting to “the featheries’’ of olden days.
