BOMBARDMENT OF FORTRESSES
FIGHTING IN PHILIPPINES
JAPANESE ATTACKS DEFENDERS FORCED TO WITHDRAW ON PANAY London, April 21 The Japanese have continued their bombardment of Corregidor and other fortresses in Manila Bay and in the latest attacks they have been using guns of nine-inch calibre. The fire from these weapons lessened yesterday, however. Fort Hughes and Fort Drum' were both bombed but most of the bombs fell in the water. Other reports from the Philippines state that on the island of Panay the defenders have been forced to withdraw.
