WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The annual meeting of the Mount Maunganui Women’s Institute was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday March 20, Mrs J. Carson presiding o\er a good attendance of members, and many visitors were present. Mrs McNaughton, V. 0., spoke on Women’s Institute affairs and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, being presented with a posy on behalf of the members by Mrs Carson. The annual report and balance sheet were presented by the secretary and treasurer respectively. The election of officers then took place, Mrs Reid being elected president, Mrs Black secretary, and Mrs Williams treasurer, Mrs Stevens and Mrs Watt vice-presidents, and a committee comprising Mesdames Ludwig, Carson, Sumerville and West and Miss Howel. A novel knitting competition was held, the knitting being done with match sticks for needles, Mrs Carson winning the prize. The points prize for the year was won by Mrs Williams. A dainty afternoon tea was served, the committee acting as hostesses, and altogether the meeting was a great success.
