LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

PUBLIC READING ROOM

Sir, —I am mucli enlightened by “Another Reader,” when he asks if I know there is a war on and further suggests that I write to Hitler or Mussolini and ask them to stop the war in order that I may use the Public Library. In reply may I say that his fatuous suggestion is in keeping with other absurdities being perpetrated in the name of patriotism these flays. The point that has not penetrated “Another Reader’s” mind is that instead of the responsible authorities shielding the light as nearly all householders are doing, they are closing up a public amenity that should be available to those who read —and think. Surely the Library authorities can devise some means of having the library blacked out. without shutting up the whole place. READER.
