SHEEP ON THE MOVE

BIG ANNUAL TREK BEGINS FIRST SHIPMENT ARRIVES IV TAURANGA The seasonal movement of sheep has commenced and the first consignment to come to Tauranga by sea from the East Coast ports arrived yesterday by the "Pakura" which has been specially fitted up for this traffic.

The Pakura left Hick's Bav for Tauranga with 273 S sheep which were consigned to the Farmers' Cooperative Auctioneering Company, The sheep are being travelled Inroad from Tauranga—9so leaving via Kaimai for Tirana and the balance 17SS to various clients in the Te Puke district.

The sheep landed in first-class condition and are mostly five and six year old ewes —the annual station drafts.

The Pakura left for Tokomaru Bay where she will load a second consignment of a series for Tauranga and should arrive here tomorrow.

Big mobs of store sheep have been moving from Gisborne and Poverty Bay districts for about ten weeks, which is much earlier than usual. Sheep for the Waikato have been travelled by road to the railhead at Taneatua destined for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty district. Other mobs have been travelled by road right through to the Waikato. There is still an abundance of feed ou the roadsides right through to the Waikato and it will be some time before the roadside fodder is cleaned up. More breeding ewes than last year are expected to go to the Waikato. With the abundance of feed there should be a very strong demand for East Coast sheen.
