AMUSEMENTS

REGENT In “Sergeant Madden,’’ coming to the Regent screen to-day and Friday, Wallace Beery returns to the type of role which he made famous in “The Champ” and “The Big House.” The new picture casts him as a lovable but two-fisted police sergeant, and the father of a son who is an ex-policeman and a murderer. ■ It is a part that might have been made for Beery because he is himself the son of a Kansas City policeman and. knows all the angles of the “beat.” Tom Brown, Allan Curtis and the lalented newcomer Laraine Day have prominent supporting roles. TOWN HALL Boris Karloff stars in the weird and fascinating horrer film, ‘The Man They Could Not Hang,” screening finally to-night at the Town Hall Theatre. Central figure of the new Columbia melodrama is a crazed scientist who returns from the dead to leave a trail of vengeance across the lives of those who had hfhi executed. Dorna Gray, Robert Wilcox and Roger Pryor also featured. “Torchy Plays with Dynamite,” latest of the Warner Bros, comedies having to do with the adventures of the famous girl reporter, Toh*chy Blane, also screens finally to-night at the Town Hall Theatre.
