PHEASANT SHOT
OFFENDER FINED £5 The .shooting of imported game at Howick on June 13 while not in possession of a licence was admitted in the Otahuliu ' Police Court by Thomas Edward Ireland. Senior-Sergeant Daly said a farmer had heard the sound of shots near his property, and on investigating saw defendant walking on the beach with a gun and two dogs. A cock pheasant rose from the trees, and the farmer saw defendant shoot it, and run away when he discovered his action had been observed. Defendant said he was out shooting rabbits on the beach and had not entered upon anyone’s property. When he saw the pheasant rise the temptation was too much and he fired at it. Defendant was fined £5, and al- > lowed two weeks in which to pay?
