FOOTBALL OROPI VERSUS GATE p.\ (From a Correspondent) Though it rained nearly all (W morning on Saturday last. ’it cleared up in the afternoon and the return football match, Oropi versus Gate p# which was held in Mr Fred .MerrU man’s paddock, was played in SU| J shine.

Owing to the stale of the roadv all the selected Oropi team W* not able to get there on time, but by 2.15 a sufficient number of’men collected.

Mr Tom Keenan acted as referee The toss was won by Oropi, and a lively match ensued. The teams were well matched and there wa ß some outstanding play on Oropi’s side, by Colin Forsyth ami on Gate Pa by Freeman Parata. The first try which was taken by Ross Haniiiton was not converted, and at halftime the score was Oropi 3 gate Pa 0. .

The next try was taken for Gate Pa by Bill Merriman soon after pla\ recommenced, but was not converted, neither Avas the second try by Sandow Merriman. The ball waa noAV carried dOAvn to Oropi’s goal line,- and soon after Ross Hamilton scored another try, which Colin Forsyth converted. Oropi 8, Gate Pa 6. Time Avas then up.

It was decided to play for another quarter of an hour, which' resulted in two more tries for Gate Pa; the first one being taken by Sandow Merriman and converted by Arthur , Merriman. The next by Eddie Brown Avas not converted, and the final score was Gate Pa 14, Oropi S. Afternoon tea Avas supplied by the Gate Pa ladies and speeches were made, after Avhich the crowd dispersed.
