ROWING
HAMILTON CLUB’S PURCHASE An eight-oared boat, purchased in Sydney for the Hamilton Rowing Club, has been delivered. It was purchased second-hand, but it is in excellent condition. Mr I. Duncan selected the skiff for the club while on a recent visit to Sydney. The club’s boathouse has been extended to accommodate the 60ft shell. Although the cub has never owned an eight-oared boat before, its representatives have been singularly successful in borrowed craft. The club won the' New Zealand championship the first time its crew stepped into a borrowed boat on March 11, 1928, at Auckland. Later the Hamilton crew defeated North Shore, Tauranga, and West End, but in December, 1932, the .club lost the Somerville Shield to Tauranga. The trophy was annexed by Hamilton in 1933, but in 1935 Tauranga was again victorious. The club has not challenged for the trophy since. The ecquisition of the boat is expected to give decided advancement to rowing in Hamilton
