WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
GATE PA The July meeting of the Gate Pa Women’s Institute was held in the Church Hall, the President, Mrs Pemberton, in the chair. There was a good attendance of members. Some arrangements were discussed for the birthday party to be held in September. At the conclusion of the business, Mrs Keam, of the Hairim-Welcome Bay Women’s Institute, gave a demonstration of making wood pulp flowers. Mrs Keam made a dog rose with bud, and a violet. This was very interesting, and was closely followed. The President thanked Mrs Keam, who also had on view some beautiful examples of wood pulp work. The competition, an article made from two ounces of wool, was won by Mrs Murray, with Mrs Jones second. In the best bloom, Mrs King was first, and Mrs Grant second. After afternoon tea had been, served by Mesdames McKinlay, McLaren and Norris, the social half hour took the form of two competitions, one a word building competition, won by Mrs McKinlay, the other, tearing a pig out of a piece of paper, being won by Mrs Robinson. The meeting closed with the singing of the'National Anthem.
