THE DX CLUB
SOCIAL EVENING No doubt many people are in the dark regarding the DX Club, but a visit to their first birthday social on Saturday evening showed the Club to be definitely “on the map.” The members number about 25 young people who are keenly interested in radio, and who spend a certain amount of their leisure time in collecting verifications from amateur wireless transmitters, aim also from some of the broadcasting Commercial stations. The local Club which is a sub-branch of the Waikato branch, has been in existence one year, and the President is Miss Joyce Gilbert, who it may bo is the only lady in the Club. Mr Bin Norris is the' Secretary, Mr F. Lorrigan the Treasurer, and with Mr Flower these three officials form the Committee. On Saturday evening Mr Lorrigan, acted as Master of Ceremonies and kept things moving merrily, and a speecli of welcome was made by Miss Gilbert who had also arranged a competition which was won by Miss O. Norris. The cloth which was made and presented by Mrs Flower and won by Mr Lockyor in a recent raffle was also on view. Musical items wore given by Miss Mima Carswell, Mrs Rundell, Mr W. Dick, and the Morrinsville visitors, Keith Mueller. Stace Warren, Alloy Redshaw, L. U. O’Connor, Leu Tidmarsh and Les Hopkins, while Mr Lorrigan and Mr W. Norris provided the humour. At supper time the birthday cake which was iced to represent a wireless set, was duly cut and handed round, and best wishes were extended to members. Several cups have been presented to the Club and are competed for by members who hold their meetings once a month.
