MOUNT MAUNGANUI CLUB WEEK-EXD MATCHES

In spite of the many counter attractions over the long week-end, the .Mount Aluunganui Club experienced quite a busy time. On June 4 the Ladies L.G.U. Aledal was competed for, but will not he completed until next AA’ednesday. On the sth, the June men’s medal was played in the shape of a Stableford Bogey match and resulted in a win for G. A. Foster with a score of 34. The winner’s card earned him a reduction in handicap to 27, and he was closely followed home tty good scores from A. Murray 33, L. Alalpas 32, and D. Low 31. A special medal played on June 6, resulted in a lie between AI. Garriock and J. Hart, both with 7 8 net. Both cards presented points of interest to the handicapper. since, had Air Garriock kept up the form displayed in the playing of the nine holes the first time round, his net return would have been in the low sixties; whilst, but for a bad lapse at the second hole, where apparently several visits to the out-of-bounds area resulted in a tragedy, J. Hart’s card showed that his handicap was considerably higher than was warranted by his rapidly improving game. He is consequently reduced to 24.

On the same clay the ladies played a one-club match over 9 holes for a special prize kindly presented by Airs Alolouey. This was won by Airs Barker 41 net, the runner-up being Airs F. Briggs 4 4 net. To mark the occasion of the King’s birthday the ladies provided a special afternoon tea, while Mr Barker made a very sporting gesture by doing what is known colloquially as “killing a pig” in order that all due honour should be able to he | paid to His Majesty.
