WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

O.MOKOROA The monthly meeting of the Ohiokoroa Women’s Institute was held in the local hall on Wednesday last, Mrs Kirk presiding over a well attended meeting. Three new members were welcomed and two old members were farewelled, Mrs Hodgson, who shortly sails for a trip to Scotland, and Mrs K. Gordon, who has gone to live in Tauranga. It was reported that the annual children’s party held last Friday was a great success. A notice was read and members asked to attend Miss Andrew’s reception in Tauranga later in the month. The two members who attended the group committee meeting gave their report. Omokoroa and Apata are to be hostesses at the next group meeting, and it was asked that as many members as possible will attend. The competition for soft toy brought some excellent animals and dolls, Miss Plummer gaining first place and Mrs Bailey second. The flower competition was won by Mrs Emeny, A demonstration, "the dressmaker’s model,’’ was given by Mesdames Gardner and Crowe. It was arranged to send small gifts to two local ladies in hospital, the nearest members to procure and deliver same with well wishes from the Institute. The hostesses, Mrs Lauder and Miss Foster, served an enjoyable afternoon tea. GATE PA j A games afternoon was held in I the Gate Pa Church Hall on Wednesday [last, when members and friends of the Women’s Institute spent a merry time. Members of the Committee each brought a game j and a prize, the results being as fol- j lows;—"Bucket,” Mrs R. Smith; . "darts,” Mrs Plummer; “stepping I 10 yards,” Mrs Baker; "blobs,” Mrs j Fraser; "Burlington Berty,” Mrs j Norris: "quoits,” Mrs McKinley:; "hop and pop," Mrs Brightwell; i "taipo,” Mrs Taylor. j A well filled stall did good busi- ’ ness, and afternoon tea was served by the Committee, and the afternoon was quite successful, the funds going to swell the Institute purse.
