PAEROA-POKENO LINE
SURVEY OF RAILWAY ROUTE
The survey of the Paeroa-Pokeno railway line has now been carried as far as Ngatea, from where it will cross the Crown laud along Orchard West road to Waitakaruru, states the Hauraki Plains Gazette. Construction of the Waihou bridge approaches is still proceeding at a rapid rate. About 10 huts have been erected in the single men’s camp at the Puke bridge, each being constructed of canvas and weatherboarding with interior lining throughout. There are also washhouses provided with a water supply. Work was started last week on the construction of the married men’s camp. The houses will be of the same materials as the single men’s but will consist of three rooms, each with a window, while a wash-house will be provided for every two huts.
