SHOT FIRED

SEQUEL TO QUARREL Wanganui, April 20. A sensational happening at Castlecliff last evening, when there was an altercation regarding the occupancy of a house, resulted in a violent quarrel developing and a gun being discharged, the shot narrowly missing Ernest De Tourett, late licensee of the Albion Hotel, Wanganui. A resident of Castlecliff later surrendered himself to the police. As a sequel Charles Henry Bourne, 26, was charged in the Police Court this morning with attempted murder. • At the request of Detective-Ser-geant Robertson' the accused was remanded until April 28. It is understood that De Tourett proceeded to the house, with intention of occupying it, taking with him a quantity of luggage. The occupant of the premises raised some objection to the property being taken over, and an exchange of words was followed later by the appearance of a douhlebarelled gun. A deafening crash of shot, followed by the smashing of glass from a shattered window, stirred others in the vicinity to the knowledge that something serious was amiss. Constable Trask, of Castlecliff, was quickly on the spot, and the weapon alleged to have been discharged was taken possession of. When the police arrived De Tourett's face was besmattered with blood, but it is not definite' whether he was actually hit by stray pellets from the weapon or whether his condition was due to a struggle which is alleged to have taken place to determine the possession of the weapon.
