HALLOWE’EN SOCIAL. A very successful Hallowe’en Social was held in The Rlvoli on Thursday, October 31st, and about 100 members and friends made merry while the spooks and witches did their best from the outside to frighten them. The first half of the programme was entirely given over to the children, the committee consisting of Mrs Sams, Mrs Milsom, Chieftain R. Stewart, Councillor R. J. Clarkson and others, whose arrangements on behalf of the children left nothing to be desired. The hall was tastefully decorated in various tartans and with the grinning spook faces placed at Intervals round the room, the place had a real old-fash-ioned Hallowe’en appearance. Mrs Riddingtori and Miss Grace Davidson and their willing band of helpers did yeoman service in the' providing of the supper, and deserve special mention for their work In that direction.

A good deal of fun was caused with the children in their attempts at Dookin’ for ■ Aipples, also with aipples on string, one or two of the smaller ones proving quite smart with their teeth—some had to go under water and some were put under water by willing helpers. However they all had a good time, and will remember the Hallowe’en of 1935 for a long time. The following programme was carried through:—Grand March and Grand Old Duke of York; Song, “Turn Ye to Me,” Miss J. Milsom; Game, Musical Chairs; Recitation, Miss-Cola Riddlngton; Game, Gathering Nuts In May: Community Singing; Recitation, Master J. Muuro; Game, Balloon and Spoon Race; Exhibition Highland Fling, Miss J. Sim and Miss K. Youngson; Game, Aipples on String; Exhibition Sailor’s Hornpipe, Miss Shirley Lochhead; Recitation, Miss Ivy Lees; Bookin’ for Aipples; Lollie Scramble, etc.

After supper old time and Scottish dancing was Indulged in- by the grown up people, and during the evening bagpipe selections by Pipers Davidson and Guthrie- were appreciated, as also were one or two items on the piano accordeon by Mr G. Morine. Mr J. Burns supplied the music for dances, etc., a splendid evening closing with Auld Lang Syne.
