POPPY DAY

ANNUAL EFFORT ON SATURDAY.

The annual sale of poppies, arranged by the Returned Soldiers' Association, will take place on Saturday next, when the poppies will be on sale throughout the day by a number of voluntary workers. In connection with the effort we have pleasure in publishing the following letter from Mr L. R. Wilkinson, President of the Association: “In the course of the next few days our annual appeal through the sale of poppies will be made in order to provide funds to relieve the serious position existing among the returned soldiers of this district. 1 would remind the general public who are kind enough to assist our object that all cash collected from poppy sales is expended on relief; there are no expenses. The sellers are voluntary workers, and the Association has no administrative expenses. When buying your poppy—which is the symbol of remembrance —you will know that your shilling is going to help a returned soldier in need, and wil be deeply appreciated. Wherever possible the poppy funds are used to subsidise labour as those seeking relief prefer to render a service in return for the help extended. —Yours faithfully, L. 11. WILKINSON, President R.S.A., Tauranga.’’
