INJURED IN CELL

MAN FELL BPT. TO FLOOR. Portland, Sept. 14. John Henry Hoganson, who has been charged with the murder of his brother at Cullen Bullen, was this morning injured in his cell at the Portland police station. Frederick Hoganson, 27, was shot on August 27, and he died two days later. The inquest, which was to have been held- to-day, has been postponed until September 23.

The accident occurred this morning after Hoganson had had his breakfast. At his own request he was. given a second cup of tea, and a few minutes later the lock up keeper heard a noise in the cell.

He found Hoganson unconscious on the floor. He is thought to have climbed up to the barred window and toppled backwards. A doctor who was called -found that he was suffering from the effects of concussion, and he will be taken to hospital later in the day. Hoganson probably fell about eight feet on to his head, which was badly hurt. Mrs Hoganson, his mother, was naturally greatly distressed at her son’s murder, and became even more heartboken when his bother was charged with the crime. She saw her injured boy in the cell this : .ornlng, and there was a distressing scene. Mr Sproule led her away later, and comforted her.
