BROTHERS DROWNED

TRAGEDY IN' STORM CHANNEL.

Sydney, Sept. 14

Two brothers, named Grown, of St. Mary’s-street, Newtown, ran to the Newtown Police late this afteinoon and told them that their two younger brothers, aged six and 11, had been washed away in a channel towards White Bay (Darling Harbour). Water Police, a dozen local policemen, and about a hundred civilians, are searching the banks of the channel.

The missing boys are believed to be Vincent John Brown, aged 11 years, and Baden Francis Brown, aged six. From the broken story the police learned that the four boys had been playing in a shallow part of the canal, when, without warning, a huge wave of water swirled down upon them. The two elder lads managed to scramble up the side to safet>, biu their younger brothers were swept away.

The police state that the water in the canal at the time was racing at a great speed and not even tuc,strongest of swimmers could have fought against it. Dragging operations are going on about the mouth of the canal in White Bay.
