PUBLIC LIBRARY

A NEW CHAIRMAN. Owing to the pressure of business, Mr R. Mann, at a recent meeting of the Tauraiiga Library Committee, asked to be relieved of the duties of Chairman. The Committee appointed Mr Butts to fill Mr Mann’s place as Chairman. Mr Mann referred to the cordial relations which had existed between the members of the committee and himself over a period of nine years, and assured his colleagues of his desire to advance the interests of the library in every way. The Committee recorded its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr Mann and especially of the reaching of his objective in the Borough Council erecting a new library and reading room. Numerous visitors to the town continually express their appreciation of the excellent way in which the library and reading room are conducted.

The Library Committee is concentrating on the building up of a good reference library and during the past year has bought a large number of boks of travel, history and biography. The latest addition to the reference library is 'the Journal and Letters of the Rev. Samuel Marsden.
