A conference of local branches of the Women’s Institute will be held in the Theatre Royal at two o’clock to-morrow afternoon, when an address will be delivered by Miss Spencer, President of the Federated Women’s Institutes. Visitors will attend from the Paengaroa, Te Puke, Papamoa, Whakamarama, Katikati, Omokoroa and Mount Maunganui branches. Very favourable comment was heard on all sides last night at the Hockey Association’s dinner on the excellent double victory of the representative team in securing the Kusabs Shield and the Ellison Cup. The former trophy was presented for competition by a well-known Rotorua enthusiast, while the Ellison Cup was the gift of Mr E. L. Ellison, of Auckland. Both are handsome trophies and with the splendid lighting facilities on the domain there is evei*y prospect of the representative eleven reaching such a standard of efficiency as will enable them to retain possession of the two handsome trophies. The Secretary, Mr P. Lumley, reported to the Tauranga Hospital Board yesterday that the Board had written off at March 31 last a sum of £485 18s 4d for the treatment of Maoris and half-castes. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.’s premises at Tauranga will be closed on Monday next, Dominion Day. The Land League is combining its activities in respect to settling idle lands and will meet at 10.30 tomorrow morning.
