LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The fifteenth frost for the month of August was registered last night. The motor vessel Port Waikato is due to arrive here from the South on Friday night, and on completion of discharge will proceed to northern ports. Mr George Gardiner, son of Mr G. Gardiner, of Matakana Island, who achieved fame as a foqtballer in Tauranga, Te Puke, and Auckland recently wrestled Limutkin, the Russian, and Ike Robin, the big Maori mat man. He was defeated by both, but was responsible for a very creditable display. The Hockey Association’s fortnightly card evening was held in Foster’s Tea Rooms last night. The prize winners were Mrs Mclntyre and Mr T. Milne. The following transfer on the valuation roll was authorised at last night’s meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council: Estate of S. Gear (deceased) to William Stevenson. Tenders, closing on September 6, are invited by the District Engineer of the Public Works Department for the erection of several cottages at Pongakawa.
