COUNTY INSURANCES.

I’IAKO WILL CARRY OWN RISKS. Prompted by a desire to save most of the £7OO a year which it has been paying annually in insurance premiums on policies covering' county workmen and plant, the Piako County Council has unanimously decided to carry its own insurances in future, and meet claims out of the general fund.

The Chairman, Cr W. R. Lowry, explained that the Raglan County Council had been carrying its own insurances for the past thirteen years, and as a result of this had saved, so it was considered, between £BOOO and £9OOO. “They were paying out the same amount in insurance premiums as we are paying now,” he added. “I think we would be well advised to carry our own insurances, except that we may take out some policy to cover relief workers, seeing that they are doing work to which they are unaccustomed. It would have cost Ragland £9OO for insurance policies in the past thirteen years, and during that time they have paid out less than £IOOO for accident claims.’’
