LIFE SAVING SOCIETY.

MEETING OP TE PUKE SUBCENTRE. A meeting of the Te Puke SubCentre of the Royal Life Saving Society was held this week at Mount Maunganui. Present; Messrs Hookey (Chairman), Paterson, Riggir, Miller, Newling, Wilkie, Hargreaves, Chapman and Armitage (delegates), also Messrs G. Cameron, H. C. Sidford. R. Moore, and S. Higgins (visitors from the Takapuna Club representing the Royal Life Saving Society from the Head Centre. The Chairman explained the purpose of the visit of the surf-team from the head centre.

Mr Sidford was appointed as second delegate on the Head Centre, to act in conjunction with Mr Kay. Mr Sidford, in replying, thanked the Sub-centre for the confidence placed in him, and said that he would be pleased to do anything to help the Sub-Centre at all times. He also explained that there was a movement being made to make Hamilton a centre.

The Chairman expressed the opinion that it would be in the interests of the Te Puke Sub-Centre to continue under the jurisdiction of the Auckland Hea.d Centre. It was decided that the Te Puke Sub-Centre continue under the jurisdiction of the Auckland Head Centre, and that the Head Centre be advised of the Sub-Centre’s decision.

The Chairman suggested that Mr Sidford might take this matter up with the centre.

Mr Armitage suggested that a visit from the Auckland Surf Clubs might be arranged for Christmas 1932 and a demonstration held at the Mount during the New Year, and also a carnival.

Mr Sldford expressed the opinion that the Provincial Championships for seven-men teams might be arranged to be held at the Mount, a.nd a suitable trophy obtained. The Chairman intimated that clubs likely to be formed were Matata, Whakatane, Waihi and Opotiki. It was agreed that Mr Sidford take up the matter of holding a seven-man Auckland Provincial Championship contest at the Mount during New Year 1933, with the Auckland Head Centre

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded all the willing helpers, who so kindly assisted the Sub-Centre during the visit of the representatives team from the Head Centre. It was decided that a very hearty vote of thanks be passed to the Auckland Head Centre of the Royal LifeSaving Society for the great assistance which it has rendered the SubCentre, by sending a surf-team to the Mount; also, that a letter of thanks be sent to the Head Centre, expressing the gratitude of the SubCentre, and, also, that a, letter of thanks be sent the Takapuna Club, as representing the Head Centre, for the very sporting way in which their team helped the members of the Te Puke, Mount and Tauranga, Clubs.. Mr Cameron, team manger, thanked the Sub-Centre for the wonderful treatment which the members of the team had received. Mr Sidford thanked the members of the Te Puke, Mount, and Tauranga Clubs, and expressed the hope that the team might have an opportunity of again visiting Tauranga in the not-far dista,nt future. The Sub-Cen-tre would receive his attention at all times and he invited the Sub-Centre delegates and members of the affiliated Clubs to visit the Takapuna Club at any time when in Auckla.nd, and assured visitors of a hearty welcome.

Mr Higgins and Mr Moore also extended a hearty invitation to Club members, and said that they would be pleased to help at all times. They heartily thanked the Sub-Centre for the whole-hearted treatment which they and the members of the team had received.
