AUCKLAND MEETING. FIRST DAY. Auckland, March 26 Beautiful weather prevails to-day tor the Auckland races. There are large fields and a good attendance. The track is fast. Results:
PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP.—(I2) King’s Archer 1, (15) Gay Cockade 2. (7) Awaken 3. Scratched: Mosque, Spring Abbey, Great Emblem. Won by a length and a-half, a neck between second and third. Time 2.6 4/5. HURDLES.. — (4) Luminary 1, (10) Patutahi 2, (1) Lucess 3. Scratched: Standfast, Te Homai, Russet Moor, Kawalnga, Spalpiko, Prince Lu, Simeon. Won by two lengths, a neck between second and third. Time 3.47.
OAKS.— (1) Speedmint 1, (3) Limeen 2, (5) Flower 3. Scratched: Gold Pit, In Vain, Makhill, Princess Bede. Won by a length and a-quar-ter. Time 2.37. Past Passage broke down.
STAKES.— (5) Gaine Carrington 1, (3) Inflation 2, (1) Midinette 3. Scratched: Sea Ruler. Won by a head, the same distance between second and third. Time 1.26 2/5. EASTER HANDICAP,—(7) Great Star 1, (12) Lady Quex 2, (S) Sunny Sky 3. Scratched: Orapai, Paganelli, Lucky Alice, King’s Archer. Won by a head, half a length between second and third. Time 1.38 3/5.
STEEPLES.— (2) Nassock 1, (1) King’s Counsel 2, (4) Neil 3. All started. Won by a neck, two and ahalf lengths between second and third. Time 5.6 2/5. ONSLOW HANDICAP—(2) Greek Gold 1, M) Courtyard 2, (7) Impudent Scratched: Hispania, Ornamental, Chief Marionette. Welcome Lu. Holly Lu was coupled with the winner. Won by a length, a length and a-half between secbnd and third. Time 1.14.
EDEN HANDICAP.— (11) Ruby Dawn 1, (7) Lord Val 2. (12) Psychologist 3. Also started: Monarchy, Karangapai, Grand Spirit, Kit the Deck, Teels, Good Idea, Desert Star, Pateena, Limex, Camp Princess, Golondrina, Lady Winifrede, Paper Dart, Rose Latour, Roxy. Won by two lengths, third horse a length away. Time 1.40 2/5.
RANDWICK RACES
Sydney, March 27
The Australian Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opened at Randwick yesterday in lino weather, and on an excellent track.' There was a large attendance. Results;
FIRST HURDLE RACE— Hudibras 1, King Aura 2, Draconic 3. Eleven started. Won easily by five lengths. Time 3.393. AUTUMN STAKES, one mile and a-half.—Nightmarch (N.Z.) 1, Veilmond (N.Z.-bred) 2, Second Wind (N.Z.-bred) 3. Seven started. Compris went to the front from the start, and setting a slow pace led past the half-mile from Nightmarch, Chide, Strength and Veilmond. Nightmarch assumed control at the top of the straight and won nicely by two lengths from the fast-finishing Veilmond, with Second Wind third. Time 2.36.
A.J.C. SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES —Kuvera 1, Vauntry 2, Turbine 3. Thirteen started. Won by three lengths. Time 1.25 J. DONCASTER HANDICAP.-—Jacko 1, Legislator 2, Tom Pinch 3. Twen-ty-five started. Won by two lengths. Time 1.37 J. AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB’S ST_ LEGER, one mile and threequarters.—Middle Watch 1, Ammon Ra (N.Z.) 2, Johnnie Jason 3. Also started: Tenacious, Perinthus, Maurice Bede. Maurice Bede was the early pacemaker, from Ammon Ra, Middle Watch and Johnnie Jason. Ammon Ra led into the straight, and appeared likely to win easily, but Middle Watch unwound a brilliant finishing effort and gained the victory by two lengths. Time 3.4|. VAUCLAUSE HANDICAP—RogiIIa 1, Grey Ben 2, Tantrum 3. Nineteen started. Won by half a length. Time 1.26.
WILLIAMSTOWN MEETING.
Melbourne, March 27
Dominant gained another success when he won the Easter Stakes at the Williamstown meeting yesterday. Results: EASTER STAKES, , one mile. — Dominant 1, King Mart (N.Z.-bred) 2, Rosetta 3. Eleven started. Won by half a length. Time 1.39 i.
