The Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture a.nd Mines, has been visiting Tauranga during Easter and leaves on his return to Wellington this afternoon.

Dr Reakes, Director-General of

Agriculture, has been spending a short holiday in Tauranga and left to-day for Rotorua. Mr and Mrs W. H. Gifford artived from Wellington on Saturday evening and will be staying for several days. Mrs W. Clouston, of Wellington, is spending a holiday with relatives in Tauranga. Mr and Mrs G. R. Law, of Avondale, Auckland, spent Easter at Tauranga with Mr Law’s parents, Mr and Mrs J. Law. Mr and Mrs J. T. Law, of Taihape, are also visiting their parents. Mr, Mrs and the Misses Miller (2), of Taihape, are spending a holiday in Tauranga. Mrs Barclay, of Waitetuua, is on a visit to Tauranga. Mr H. E. Stephens has been appointed producers’ representative on the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board in place of Mr T. C. Brash, who has resigned. The death of Mr William Duncan, a well-knoAvn resident of Takapuna, and one of the most widely experienced land valuers in the Auckland district, occurred in a private hospital at Auckland on Saturday.

The dean of Hamilton, the Very Rev. G. R. Barnett, has tendered his resignation as vicar of Hamilton and dean of the cathedral. His resignation will take effect in June. Dean Barnett will leave to take up work in England at the end of June.

The death is reported from Christchurch of Mr John Wood, a former manager of Christchurch Tramways and at one time Mayor of Riccarton.

Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., has been appointed chairman of the licensing commtitee for Napier, Hawke’s Bay, and Waipawa in succession to Mr A. M. Mowlem.

The Rev. John Miller, who recently retired from the Papanui Presbyterian Church on account of illhealth, has left New Zealand on a trip to England.

Mr W. R. Millier. inspector in the Public Trust Office, with headquarters at Napier, has been transferred to Wellington to take over the control, under the district public trustee, of the local property division.

Mr W. R. Butcher, who has been acting as Assistant Locomotive Engineer, N.Z. Railways, Auckland, for some time, has been appointed First Assistant Locomotive Engineer, North Island Division, with headquarters at Auckland.
