ECONOMY REPORT.
ONEHUNGA SUGGESTIONS. As the outcome of a lengthy discussion on the interim report of the Economy Commission, the following resolutions were carried by the One-hunga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce this week: "If it is found necessary to obtain a larger share of taxation from holders of Government and local body debentures, this chamber urges the Minister of Finance to make a further temporary increase in the graduated income tax on the interest from these debentures including it with all other ‘unearned’ income as in the past, rather than break contracts by compulsorily making a flat rate reduction in the rate of interest itself, as the latter course would be inequitable in its incidence, would break faith with the lenders and would seriously damage the credit of the Dominion.
