OIL PIPE LINE.
CONCESSION TO SHELL COMPANY
A special meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council was held last night at 7.20 o’clock. Present; His Worship the Mayor, Mr B. C. Robbins (in the chair), Crs L. Norris, J. M. Daines, C. Whiting, J. Law, A. E. Newsham, J. F. Russell Wallace, T. M. Bioor and A. N. lies. The meeting was called to deal with the following business:
] —To pass a resolution granting the Shell Company a pipe line easement in Cliff Road, Marsh Street, and Chapel Street. 2—To pass a resolution closing Water Street.
Messrs' Sharp, Tudhope and Wilson. solicitors, forwarded copies of a resolution to be passed by the Council, for confirmation later us a special order, granting to the Shell Company of New Zealand, Ltd., the right to lay a 3in petroleum conduit pipe and 14in. gas pipe in Cliff Road. Marsh Street and Chapel Street; that the grant bo for a term of ten years at a rental of £5 per year and upon the terms and conditions contained in the draft grant of easement prepared and submitted by the borough solicitors; also that the resolution be submitted for confirmation as a special order at a meeting of the Council to be held on April 27 next. The motion as submitted by the solicitors, was moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr lies and carried unanimously. The question of closing Water Street, near the rubbish dump, was then considered. The Town Clerk, Mr R. B. Shearman, read the clauses of the Act bearing on the matter and detailed the formalities, that had to be complied with. The Mayor stated that the procedure would be expensive, and moved —That the matter be deferred for further inquiry by the Town Clerk.
The motion was seconded by Cr Daines and carried.
