RAILWAY REVENUE.

IMPROVEMBKXT MAINTAINED. Railway earnings continue to increase unci expenses to fall, according to the figures for the four weks ending December 5 (says a Wellington inestlageL The profit on operations was .1152,-’ll. which was almost .1 10,000 more than for the corcsponding period of last year. For the present financial year to dale the. net earnings are now £28.000 above the total for the corresponding period of 1020. The latest return is the third in succession showing a.n improvement uver those for 19 20 and also those for 1929. The gross receipts for the four weeks were £-176,471 which is £74,924 less than in Novcmhor-De-cember of 1980. Expenses were £4 24,260. a decline of £84,890. The let result from railway operation alone was £28,594, as against £21,274 in tlio previous year. Net receipts irom miscellaneous services were £23.617, as against £20,971. Railway operation in the North Island produced a working profit of £36.275, as against £29,172. A return for the financial year to December 5 for each of the past three jears shows that the net revenue has been as follows: —1931. £246,592; 1 930, £208,460; 1929, £285,209.
