ATTEMPTED ARSON.
HALL AT RUATORIA. Gisborne, April 22 A determined attempt was made at midnight on Saturday to burn a public hall used as a picture theatre at Ruatoria. A benzine-case tilled with films, and with a lighted candle in the bottom, was placed near the door of the operating box upstairs, and lengths of film were run between the seats to an open tin of benzine. Nearby storekeepers, attracted by the reflection of the flames through the windows, effected an entry, and the flames were smothered with matting from the floor before they reached the benzine. A previous unsuccessful attempt to burn the hall was made a week ago. - • '
