PETROL IGNITES.
FIRE AX FILLING STATION. Palmerston North, April 20 Att outbreak of fire occurred at a petrol pump station at the corner of Rangitikei and Queen Streets last evening. Some petrol overflowed on to the hot engine of a motor-cycle, and vapourised, then became ignited from tlxe acetylene headlight. The flames ran up the hose to five gallons of spirit in the pump, and then to the root of the building. The clothes of the attendant, Mr Netten, caught fire, and his leg was slightly burned. Mr Allan Bull had one hand burned. The fire brigade used chemical extinguishers, and water, and quelled the flames quickly, although four petrol pumps were damaged. The building, which is insured,, was only slightly burned, but the motor-cycle was badly damaged.
