TAURANGA HARBOUR BOARD AFFAIRS

Annual Accounts Passed. PASSENGER TOLL TO MOUNT REMOVED. A meeting of the Tauranga Harbour Board was held in the Board’s offices on Wednesday. Present: Messrs J. G. Green (Chairman), C. E. Macmillan, M.P., A. J. Mirrielees, W. A. Bennett. C. Lally, R. Wilson, C. 11. Clinkard, M.P., and H. M. Martin. An apology was received from Mr W. F. Sinclair for his unavoidable absence. New Member. Mr H. Lewis, County Clerk, advised under date February 28, that he had received a communication from the Marine Department intimating that Mr Wiliam Atherton Bennett has been appointed a member of the Tauranga Harbour Board as representative of the Maketu and Te Puke Ridings of the County of Tauranga and the Township of Te Puke. A similar letter from the Secretary of the Marine Department was reafi. Mr Bennett took his seat and was welcomed by members. Annual Accounts. On the motion of Mr Macmillan, seconded by Mr Bennett, it was resolved "that the Chairman and Secretary be authorised to sign a copy of the accounts now before the Board for the period ended 30th September, 1929; that they be printed and circulated and advertised as required by the Harbours Act.” Lease of Section. Mr B. C. Robbins wrote stating he has a client who is prepared to take a ten years lease of Section 34 4 (quarter acre), with the right of renewal. The Chairman stated that in company with Mr Robbins’s client and Mr Mirrielees and the Secretary, he had inspected and an understanding had been arrived at. The action of the Chairman and Mr Mirrielees was confirmed, on the motion of Mr Wilson, seconded by Mr Mirrielees, and the Secretary instructed to invite tenders for the lease of the section accordingly. | Tree Planting. Mr S. H. Sworder wrote offering to -plant 60 acres of Matakana (the Board to find the trees) for £IOO. It was decided that the letter be received and recorded for reference. Town Planning. The Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs and Chairman of the Town Planning Board, wrote advising that arrangements have been made for a public inquiry to be held on behalf of the Town Planning Board in the Borough Council Chambers, Tauranga. on May 12, for the purpose of hearing evidence from all Interested parties to determine the boundaries of the region comprising the Borough of Tauranga and surrounding district. In other words to determine the area of which the Borough of Tauranga may be regarded as the commercial centre in which, there is community of social arid economic Interest. The Minister added: “The primary object of this inquiry is to enable the local authorities to acquire the necessary information to enable them to arrive at a decision .in regard to the action to be taken for the deflni- ' tlon of the regional area and the constitution of a Regional Committee in accordance with the provision's of the Town Planning Amendment Act, 1929, and as it is hoped that your. Board will be represented on this committee it is very desirable that a delegate or delegates should be appointed from amongst your members and officers to give evidence at this inquiry.” It was resolved that the Chairman and Mr Macmillan and Mr Mirrielees represent the Board at the inquiry. Subdivision of Land. Mr R. T. Goulding, surveyor and civil engineer, forwarded plan of subdivision of the Tauranga Tobacco and Citrus Company’s Estate, for the Board’s approval as to tidal boundary in the Waimapu River. Mr Macmillan moved that the plan be signed as correct. Seconded by Mr Lally and carried. Conveniences on_ Beach. Mr R. B.' Shearman, Town Clerk, in acknowledging letter with reference to conveniences on the beach, stated that the rriatter has been referred o a Committee and the borough inspector to report on.—Thp letter was received. Yachts and Launches. ■. Mr J. H. Thomas, Hon.-SecretaiT ' of the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club, wrote advising that at a recent meeting of the Committee of the Club the following resolutions ; •were carried; (1) That this Committee recom-: mends the Harbour Board to-set aside a protected area in the vicinity of Second and Fourth Avenues. (2) That the Harbourmaster be asked to see that all boats are moored in lines. - (3) That the Harbour Board be asked to provide steps at the eastern end of the old wharf for the use of pleasure craft. At a subsequent general meeting of the Club two members of the Harbour Board, Messrs Sinclair and Mirrielees, were present. The resolutions carried at the Committee meeting were discussed with the Harbour Board members. The following resolution was also carried at this meeting: "That the Harffour Board be asked to fix mooring charges at the following rates, viz; 1-Os for all boats up to 20ft, and 20s per annum for all boats over this size. „ Mr Mirrielees explained that at tne last meeting of the Board Mr Sinclair and himself had been deputed to confer with the riiembers of the (Tub, with a view to coming to some arrangement. The result of the meeting was embodied in the club’s letter. Mr Clinkard moved that the Tauranga members be authorised to-deal with the matter, and submit ro-:om-mendations to the Board. Seconded by Mr Wilson and carried. Cream Receiving Depot. Mr E. Rummerstrom, for the Waikato Valley Dairy Company. Limited, Franktoii Junction, in a letter, dated March 26, to the Secretary of the Board, staled; "The writer called on you about a fortnight ago re drainage of the section on which our Company might erect a receiving depot for their cream supply. On ybur recommendation we saw the borough inspector and took him down to the site, and after inspecting this he said he thought there would be no trouble whatever about the draining. As I understand that we will have to get your Board’s permission will you kindly put the position before them at their next meeting and let us know whether you have any objection.”
