Sir Joseph Ward’s Statement. TO BE DELIVERED NEXT WEEK. Wellington, April 19 “Internal borrowing" is stated to be the subject of an important reference, by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, in the course of his review of the country’s finances which Is now to be delivered on Wednesday or Thursday. Reference may also be made to the Dominion’s next Oversea Loan, for which it is believed the London money .market will be approached next month. Other matters of interest, outside the actual result of public accounts for the year, will also be dealt with in addition to announcing the small surplus.which has been the outcome of the year’s operation. The Prime Minister will supply figures showing that for the period the State Advances Department has established a record in the number of loans granted forborne building. In dealing with Customs figures Sir Joseph Ward may disclose the intentions of the Government regarding the removal of the additional one per cent, primage on imports, other than now exempted foodstuffs and fertilizers. Conclusion.—We desire to thank all members for the confidence plac ed In us and for the support given to us during our term of office, and in retiring from our various offices we would earnestly ask you to do your very best to keep this Association alive. As mentioned before, our membership compares favourably With last year’s, but there is no reason why. this Association should not have a financial membership of four or five times the number it has, for if ever an Association nas done enough good work to justify its existence we feel sure this one has. There is still much to be done, and if ever a solid organisation was needed, it is now, and will be for a few years to come, so help along th 6 good cause by paying the current year’s subscription. Unity is strength and we need your assistance to help some less fortunate comrade. Balance Sheet. The balance sheet for the year ended March 31, 1930, was read and showed the finances to be in a satisfactory position. Full details were given by Mr Bamberry. Mr Clinkard moved —That the report and balance sheet be adopted.— Seconded by Mr Mearns and carried. Election of Officers. 1 The meeting then proceeded to elect officers for the ensuing year. The Secretary called for nominations for the position of President, and on the motion of Mr Garrett, seconded by Mr Stevens, Mr L. R. Wilkinson was unanimously re-elected. Mr Wilkinson returned thanks for the renewal of confidence-and assured members of his desire to advance the interests of the Association in every way. Other officers were elected as follows: Vice-Presidents, Messrs G. Cawte ' and F. A. Stevens. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr R. Bamberry. 'Assistant Secretary, Mr P. G. McIntosh. Auditor, Mr C. T. Clinkard. Executive Committee. —Messrs P. G Mclntosh, J. H. Garrett, C. G. Lasenhy, F. Robinson, V. J. Scantlebury, P. Lumley, A. Frires, W. G. Isles, W. Norris. H. D. Stevens, W. Parlane and C. T. Clinkard. - General Matters. Mr Norris moved—That the Executive be given discretion to operate on the Building Fund A/c in connection with the furnishing of the new offices. —Seconded by Mr Clinkard and carMr Bamberry reported that he had ordered copies of the Anzac Anthem which would be rendered by the Choir at trie Memorial Service on Anzac Day. It was proposed to sell copies at sixpence each. The Chairman reported that General Sir Andrew Russell, K.C.8., K.C.M.G.. President of the New Zealand .Returned Soldiers’ Association, would be in the district for about a week, and it was hoped to make his stay as interesting as possible. He would attend the Association Reunion and also the Anzac Memorial Service. Mr Scantlebury made a suggestion that the Cemetery Trustees might'he approached with a request that a certain portion of the new cemetery be set apart for the interment of returned soldiers. ' If this were done one memorial stone, with the names of each man, could be erected. Mr Mclntosh said that granitecrosses were provided by the Government for the graves of returned soldiers who were pensioners, but the charge for other returned men was £9 for each cross. In other places the War Graves Division made a grant to the cemetery authorities for keeping the graves of returned soldiers in good , order. Mr H. D. Stevens gave notice of motion to the effect that the quorum for general meetings be fixed at twelve. The question of altering the amount of the annual subscription, ten shillings, was discussed and,.-re-ferred to the Executive Committee for consideration. Mr Bamberry moved—That Mr H. D. Stevens be autnorised to dispose of the Asspclation’s piano.—Seconded by Mr Mearns and carried. Mr H. D. Stevens moved —That the question of completing an agreement with the Borough Council for the lease of a room in the municipal building for headquarters be 16ft in the hands of the President {wr Wilkinson), Mr F.A. Stevens, and Mr McIntosh.—Seconded by Mr Clinkard and carried.

The Chairman urged all returned men to parade on Anzac Day. It was pointed out that Sir Andrew Russell will deliver the address at the Anzac Day Service in the Town Hall. Mr Cllnkard moved—That a vote of thanks be accorded the retiring officers. —The motion was carried by acclamation. On the motion of Mr Mclntosh, seconded by Mr Bamberry, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Bay of Plenty Times for publicity given to the Association’s affairs. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
