HEAVY LOSS.
FIRE DESTROYS DWELLING. Auckland, April 19 Considerable loss, including £6O in notes and silver, a horse, a cart, and a large stock of vegetables, was suffered by a Chinese market gardener, Shak Noon, when a wooden shack occupied by him in Francis Street. Takapuna, was completely destroyed by fire at about three o’clock yesterday morning.
The horse was tied up in an attached stable, and owing to the intense heat the animal could not be released. It succeeded in breaking loose and ran dowii the road, but it was so severely burned about the head that it had to be destroyed.
