LUCKY ESCAPE OF FIVE PEOPLE.

Auckland, April 19 A motor car containing five people was completely overturned at the corner of New North Road and Richardson Road, shortly after four o’clpcfk yesterday afternoon. An elderly woman, Mrs S. Cowan," of 17, Walters Road, oft Dominion Road, received a dislocation of the shoulder, but the other passengers es~ caped injury. The car was being driven along the New North Road, by Mr Nell Brown, of Edward Street, St. Hellers Bay, and a collision occurred with another car being driven by Mr J. Andrews, of 662, New North Road, out of Richardson Road. The occupants were able to open the doors and craw-1 out. When it was found that Mrs Cow-au had been Injured the ambulance w-as called and she was given medical attention and taken home. PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY CAR. -Auckland, April 19 A middle aged man who is believed to be Mr W. E. Harrison, was seriously injured when he was knocked down by a motor car near the top of College Hill about nine o’clock on Thursday evening. He left the footpath to cross the road as a motor car was proceeding up the hill, and was struck by the front of the car. The injured man w-as unconscious when picked up. He w-as taken to the hospital, w-here he was found to be suffering from a fracture of the skull. He had not regained con-' sciousness last evening and was reported to be in a very serious condition. Tw-o service medals stamped with the name, W. E. Harrison, were found on bis person. THREE PERSONS SERIOUSLY INJURED. Auckland, April 19 Three persons w-ere seriously injured and four others received minor injuries, when a motor lorry skidded, struck a stone wall and overturned completely, to land on its wheels again. The accident occurred at Penrose, almost opposite the railway station entrance, at four o’clock yesterday afternoon. The following were admitted to the Auckland Hospital, w-here their condition late last evening was reported to be fairly serious: Mrs M. C. Giles, aged 40, of Homai, Manurewa, internal injuries. Archie Giles, her son, aged 12, coneussion. Bernard James Giles, nephew, aged 10, of 26 Sherbourne Road, Mt. Eden, head injuries. Ulla Giles, a niece, aged 13," received a broken collarbone and was taken home after attention at the hospital. The driver of the lorry, J. Giles, farmer (husband of Mrs Giles) and the parents of the other two children, received iriinor cuts and bruises.
