WORK FOR WINTER. (To the Editor). Sk, —Regarding the loan recently carried for metalling the TaurangaTc Puke road: Would it not be advisable for some responsible citizens and ratepayers to make representations to the Highways Board to have this work carried out at once. With a payout of sixpence per lb. for butter fat it is going to be a hard winter for many poor families, and the carrying out of this work would give, employment to some. Greater competition amongst contractors ,at this time would also save the Board money. Surely the responsible officers could hurry things along for the sake of their less fortunate fellow creatures who arc out of work. It is in the cold days of winter that poverty strikes the hardest.—l am, etc., “RATEPAYER.” lauranga, April ly, jy3o.
