John Francis Walsh, late town clerk of Mataura, was charged in the Gore Ma gistrate's Court with theft, or eonversion to Ids own use, between Octobcr, 192 A. and .March, l!!2d. of the sum <>l 1:223 odd belonging to the Mataura Borough Council, also v.f Ids on June 22nd last. The charges were taken together. Detective Carroll said that most of the money .had Been repaid. Evidence was given regarding an audit, and sums accounted for.
