KAIMAI ROAD

Matters concerning the Kaimai Road claimed attention at yesterday’s meeting of the Tauranga County Council, Mr R. B, Shearman, town clerk, Tauranga, wrote under date October 17, advising that the question of the Borough Council making a grant towards the construction of the Kaimai Road was under consideration and he will further advise later. Mr W. A, Bennett wrote as follows: ‘'On behalf of the ratepayers of (he Tauriko special rating area, I request that you donate from the general funds a sum to assist in the completion of the metalling of the Tauranga-Mata-mata Alain Highway. The Borough of Tauranga are showing a liberal spirit in -assisting in this matter, and I feel sure tHafc you will do the same, an.d so materially help in carrying the loan on November 10, I feel that it is unnecessary for me to point out the great importance of this highway, as it is undoubtedly the main and shortest connecting link between the Waikato and flic Bay of Plenty. Commending this request to yi ur most earnest consideration.” The Chairman (Or King) gave particulars of the meeting of ratepayers held at Tauriko, as already reported. Cr Lally said the Council had already decided not to contribute to (he Kaimai Road, and the matter co.dd not be brought up again for six months if there were any opposition. Cr Darragh urged (hat the matter should be reconsidered bv the Council. Cr Morton moved That a reply be forwarded (hat the Council will review the matter as soon as it can legally do so.
