The whole valley wa. overwhelmed by a raging torrent from a lake fourteen hundred feet above I the sea level. It swept down the mountain side fifty feet high with a tremendous noise and destroyed I many homes along its path. ParI cuts grabbed their children from their beds and tied to safety. When the morning came the valley , was strewn with the wreckage of I houses and furniture, and carcases of animals. The valley is still a shocking ) scene of disaster.
