The final match in the Ku.sahs Cup competition under the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union was played here on Saturday in magnificent weather. There was a record attendance. Rotorua set the hall rolling, the Rotorua forwards pressing near the line, hut a. free kick allowed Taurauga to clear. The visitors retaliated, and a free kick was converted by D. Bo roll: Tauranga. 3 Rotorua 0
Soon after Barton secured from the loose and handed on to lies, who scored. f). Clarke got dear away and passed to Hoke, who wa.s brought down a yard from the line. The home forwards worked near the line hut lost a. possible score by kicking too hard. Clarke sent out to Vercoe to Hoke, who got clear away to the full-back. Heko kicked and Bo roll marked at a critical juncture. Hicks fumbled a high kick and the visitors were stopped only a yard from the line. Shortly after the third quarter opened a free kick, when, the homo- forwards were near the line, brought relief for Tanranga. For the home team all the forwards, especially Sargeant, and Poke, Clarke and Vercoe stood out.
The cup was presented in the dining room of the Grand Hotel by Mr Parata, President of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, with congratulations, to Mr J. A. Jordan, President of the Tauranga Rugby Union, who said it was the’ proudest moment of his life. The health of both teams was drunk with musical honours, also that of the referee, proposed by Mr C. A. Clarke, President of the Rotorua Rugby Union. The referee said it was not a. brilliant match, but a clean, hard game.
