The Smith group has in.w gathered all the anti- McAdoo ferevs, and declare it the deadlock is net ended they will unite and nominate, if possible, a compromise candidate, one of the most prominently mentioned being Mr Robinson The Smith forces now appear to have one major aim, namely, to defeat McAdoo. The latter s supporters, many of whom scorn all talk of compromise, declare that McAdoo must be nominated, but now they declare they are even ready to ask the Convention to disband without choosing a presidential nominee They would be willing to offer McAdoo as an Independent Presidential candidate directly to the voters. Other hotheads among the McAdoo group threaten to belt from the .Convention if anycn unacceptable to McAdoo is named. The count rv, meanwhile. is aghast over the Democratic disruptions, which some consider are spelling the destruction cf one of the major parties, which it Is held will be so necessary for the successful operation of American Government upon the bi-party system. New York, July 6 Mr McAdoo accepted the proposal to release tlie delegates but with a proviso l substituting a majority for two-thirds vide and abrogation of the rule that each State delegation votes as a unit. Me-, Ado:: stipulated with the resumption 6f voting that the lowest man be dropped in each ballot, until the nomination is made. He asserted that a practical plan to end the deadlock was essential, irrespective of the effect cf an individual candidacy. Both the McAdco and Smith supporters are standing firm.
