The .splendid British contingent was headed hy Cameron plpews. 'lhey were followed hy a bevy of English girl competitors. who were given a splendid reception. The gathering was thrilled hy the sudden appearance of a flying boat. It flew above the Presidential stand, a < incma operator daringly leaning out. Then there was a sudden silence as M. Doumorgue rose and proclaimed tho (lames open. Australia's 49 representatives, weaving green caps and blazers and cream trousers } inarched in the third position. New Zealand's four representatives were led. hy Porritt and Miss Shand. the latter wearing a cream costume and hat. America's :k>o representatives (one for every day in tho year), headed h., naval and military officers, mid with ladies in smart creanyeostnm.es. made up the biggest quota, and resembled an army in comparison with the otheis. The French numbered nearly 300. Ireland appeared I n* the first tune as a separate entity. Tlie Australian runner. K. M. (“Slip”) Garr. has broken down. Both his logk are affected, and it was thought that, he might be unable to run in the Olympic Games. After consultation with his doctors to-night. however, Carr stated dofipitoly that he will rna on Sunday with a bandaged leg ? although the doctors stated that several davs' rest were needed.
