KATIKATI NOTES
(From our Correspondent), A wedding took place on .Wednesday last at the residence of the bride's motiher, when Miss \ r iolet May Henry, youngest daughter of Mr* Henry and the late Mr Thomas Henry, was married to Mr Ernest Menzies Beagrie, of Katikati.
The Rev. T. Scott, Presbyterian Minister, officiated. Friends were entertained in the evening at the Town Hall.
The social conducted by the Band in order to raise funds for repairs to the piano, was very successful and realised sufficient funds to permit of tho necessary work being effected.
At a meeting of the Katikati A. and P. Association, held in the Society’s building, the balance sheet of the last show was presented. This shows a profit of £4O, over £175 being paid out in prize money. With the new building paid for the Society is only £6O behind. Such a result is very satisfactory. The half-holiday question was discussed at length. Thursday is our statutory holiday, but the Farmers’ Union store closes on Saturday, The farmers are opposed to this. It was unanimously decided to again ask that the store be closed on Thursday, A: deputation was formed to present the farmers’ views.
The cattle dip was the next business. A rate of 2d in the £ was struck by the Association, and this should bring in about £430. Only £217 has come in so far. The sum of £214 has been spout to date, so work will have to stop for a time. The district is to be canvassed to see what can be done to get the remaining £213, which, would be sufficient to finish the dip. As this is a most important work those who have not paid their rate are asked to do so in order that the work may be completed at an early date. The new store opened on Monday last. This is to be known as the Katikati Supply Store. Messrs Canned and' Co are the proprietors. The store is fully stocked with groceries, hardware, drapery, etc. A deputation from the A. and XL Association waited on Mr Canned the manager, on Saturday afteinoon to ask him if he would close on the statutory half-holiday Thursday. The request was granted, so this store will close on Thursday afternoons and keep open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
