KAIMAI ROAD.
His Worship the Mayor, Mr B Dive, has received the following communication frc m the Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Public Works: "One of the matters brought under my notice by the deputation which waited on me from your Council when I was at Tauranga last month was the metalling of the Tauranga County portion of Kaimai Road. Mr C. E. Macmillan, who is the Secretary of the Dairy Cc, requested that large grants be made in order to enable 8 or 10 miles of metalling to be undertaken and ir> improve certain bad bjntls on the road. I have looked into this matter since my return to Wellington and find that there was an item of £1000 free money and £400 i£2 for £l) on the Appropriations last year for the Tauranga County section of the road. £393 of the subsidy money has been issued to the Council, which has expended nothing to dale.The £1000 free money is still intact, and will be authorised to the Tan ranga County Council on submis sion "of satisfactory plans a .1! specifications for metalling work on the,HILL portion of the road. 1 will dlso endeavour when compiling; the Estimates this year to make further provision for metalling."
