OR. GRIGHTON RESIGNS.

At the conclusion of the business of the Borough Council on Monday night Or Crichton handed his resignation to the Mayor. It read as follows :—"lt is with much regret that I hereby tender niy resignation as Councillor, but owing to my declining health of late I am reluctantly compelled to seek a change of climate." Cr Robbius moved that the Council place on record its appreciation of the work done by Ur Crichton during the time he had been in office. Not only councillors, but the burgesses generally, would regret the step that he had been forced to take. During his residence here he had fulfilled the* duties of a citizen in a marked mau| ner. Ho (Mr Kobbiua) personallyregretted C? Criehtou's departure* from the town. ; Cr Whiting seconded the motion! and heartily endorsed the remarks oi\ Cr Bobbins. Cr Crichton had dove excellent work ou the Council aud though not always able to agree with him he, the speaker, sincerely regretted his departure. (Jr Maemillan said tbab as one who had perhaps come more into conflict with Cr Crichtou than had any other councillor he sincerely regretted his departure. He endorsed all that Cr Robbing had said and trusted that the Town Clerk would write to Cr Crichtou on behalf of the Council regretting his departure and placing on record the Council's appreciation of his services. Cr Crichton said .he appreciated the remarks of councillors. He regretted severing his connection with the town. He had had many fights at the Council table, but he had always been actuated by a desire^ co do what he thought best in the interests of the town. Tauranga was a town he had adopted, but during recent oionbbs lie had been suffering continually from asthma aud it was absolutely necessary that he should seek a change of climate.
