BAY OF PLENTY JOCKEY CLUB.

The Bay of Plenty Jockey Club's annual race meeting to ba held en the Gate Pa racecourse en Saturday next promises to be the rendezvous for a large gathering. The acceptance list incluck-s a large number of equin.es from the Coast, Te Atoha, Waihi, Kotorua, Hinuera, aud Auckland, and an interesting day's sport is promised for all who favour the meeting with their presence. Some of the competing horses have already arrived and are located in comfortable quarters. The Auckland contingent will again be a strong one, and arrives here by the Ngapubi on Friday mGrning. Tbe grass on the racing track has been cut, and if the weather favourable ihe going should be excellent on race day. Amongst tbe visitors expected to attend are Hons. W. H. Henries (Minister for Railways), Hon. W.D.S. MacDonald|(Mini3ter for Agriculture), and Mr A. W.. (iordon (stipendiary eteward). The tctalisator will be controlled by Messrs Hayrand Co., whose staff will stay at tha Masonic Hotel. The following stewards will act on Saturday :—Mr ~N. G. Aickin, totalisator steward ;Mr C. H. Jordan, clerk of the scales; Mr B. C. Robbins, assistant clerk of scales; Mr H. H. Sharplin, jockeys'room steward; Mr P. H. lioche, blackboard steward; Me§sr3 A. Davoren, J. Darragh, W. Gilmour, and A. E. Newsbam, stewarda in charge of horses; Messrs VV. Ferguson, G. W. Brown, H. Bate man, and E. Crowley, starting stewards; Mr 3. Fernberton, starting barrier" steward ; Mr A. W. Snodgrass, clerk of tbe course; Mr A. E. Innes, timekeeper; and Dr Stusrt, hon. surgeon.

The publican's booth will be controlled by Mr M. Quirk, and the luncheon and refreshment departments will be under the management of Mrs J. London. The Municipal Band has also kindly consented to render a musical programme. Mr, J. A. Guinness (secretary) has all arrangements well in hand and given fine weather the meeting should be a success in every way.

Since last issue a few particulars concerning the remainder of the horses are available. Garry Owen is a four-year-old gelding by Salvadan — Vane, hailing from Mr J. Williamson's redoubtable stable, and should be found in the fightingline. Hohungatahi (Freedom —Elack Watch) will carry the colours of Mr A. Jackson. Mr 1. Worth's Fireman is a six year old gelding by Firearm—Hippocampus mare. The Auckland Heiali in referring to the Takapuna' races states that the racehorse Keystone made a creditable showing out in front nf the Vauxhall Handicap field ou Wed nesday week, and that he has improved must be-admitted. He should do good servics for hi? country owners during the season. The races bear a decidedly open appearance, and most of thb events should furnish close finishes.
