HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Quarterly Meeting.

The quarterly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held at Opotiki on Wednesday last, being attended by Messri A. Peebles (Chairman), G. V. Stewart, M. Spence, R. King, 11. R. Hogg, B. C. Bobbins, J. C. Gow, F. T. Burt, P. A. Crawford, and the Secretary, Mr H. O. Garaway.

Various routine matters were dealt with,and accounts passed for payment.

In connection with the application of D. Hall, of iauranga for assistance, the applicant was referred to the provisions of the Act governing such cases as his.

A return furnished to the Board showed the total co3t of the Opotiki hospital, complete, to be £1920 183, Bd, and of the Tauranga hospital £1932 12s 2d.' The maintenance charges at the latter institution since it was opened amount to approximately £1,000, and at the former (opened alout three months later) to £800.

It was decided to purchase a horse, saddle and bridle for the use of Matron and staff at the Tauranga hospital. A deputation from the residents of Taneatua presented a largely signed petition urging the Board to establish a hospital at Taneatua. The deputation Stated that J2342 had been subscribed towards it and promises given which would bring the total up to £500.

A petition was also received from Whakatane residents asking that a hospital bo established there, and submitting an offer by Mr Litnbrick to give live acres of ground for the purpose under certain conditions. A request was also made by Te Puke ior the establishment of a cottage hospital there. After discussion it was decided on the motion of Mr B. C. Robbins that therequest3 of the various petitioners have the sympathy of the Board and that the Health Department be asked to report (1) If there is need lor further hospital accommodation in the Bay of Plenty H. and (J. A. district, and (2) If so, where should it be established and the nature of the same.
