Bogus Wireless Message Alters Course of German Cruisers.

An incident is related that when the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were cruising in the neighbourhood of Fiji earl.y in the war Sir E. B. Sweet Escott, the Governor, who is now in England, by a clever ruse prevented an attack. He sent a wireless message:—"Patey, Australia. Received message, expect you in morning."
The German cruisers picked it up and altered their course. Subsequently a I fetter oi" a German naval officer showed that the message caused tbe cruisers to change their plans thus sparing Suva.
