SURPRISE ATTACK BY ITALIANS.
Enemy Column Exterminated.
Rec Sept i:>, 10 2-j p iv London, iSept 1.3 The Daily Chronicle's Koine correspondent says the Italians in the Pievedi Cadore sector had encircled- a stragetic inouurain on all but the northern aide, where the enemies entrenchments were backed by a wall of precipitioas rock, which the Austrian* deemed secured them agaiu-st .surprise. Several hundred Italiau volunteers lowered themselves down the wn.ll of rock with ropes and discovered the trenches empty, the former occupants being engaged at a distance erecting a bridge across a chasm to facilitate the arrival of supplies. The Italians quiescently took possession, of the trenches and the uususpecting Austriaus on returning were met with a withering volley, a whole column being exterminated.
