Threatened Disorganisation of Steam Services.

Shipowners are perturbed at a circular issued by the Merchant Service Guild to its members, for an all round increaie in connection with the coastal and inter-State trade. . A special general meeting is called for the 20th inst. to move a resolution that owing to the decline in the purchasing value of the sovereign the present wages and conditions are unbeatable, aodit isproposed to notify employers unless they immediately concedethe terms claimed in January, 1914, together with the difference in wages from that date with additional increases varying from 2_ to 20 per cent., members will withdraw from the service until the conditions are properly adjusted.
